Belta propagandists organized a press conference with him, during which the judge said that he had been forced to leave Poland because of disagreement with the actions of the Polish authorities. The Polish media and authorities have not commented on the situation so far.
Judge of the Voivodeship Administrative Court of Warsaw Tomasz Szmydt told about the reasons for his flight from Poland: "Why did I come here? It is an expression of protest against the way the policy towards Belarus and Russia is conducted. Thanks to the fact that I'm here, I can freely speak out. The situation is such that America wants to drag Poland into a war, into a conflict zone."
He said he was "persecuted and threatened for his independent political position." During a press conference with Belarusian propagandists, Szmydt said he was officially resigning. The resignation letter will be transmitted through the Belarusian embassy in Warsaw.
Throughout the conference, the fugitive praised Lukashenka and his entourage. Toward the end of the conference, Szmydt pitifully began to ask the dictator for help: "I would like to allow myself to appeal directly to President Alexander Lukashenka. I very much apologize for my boldness, but I will allow myself to ask for guardianship, protection of the President and Belarus in general."
Tomasz Szmydt was involved in a trial in Poland over the so-called "hater scandal." Together with his now ex-wife Emilia Szmydt and Judge Arkadiusz Tihotski, they published discrediting and incorrect information about other lawyers, who opposed the reform of the judicial system at that time, in the account "Little Emmy". They justified their actions by saying that Schmidt "needed such activity to move up the ladder."
This is not the first case of Polish citizens fleeing to Belarus and seeking asylum there.
Two years ago, during the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, Polish military officer Emil Czeczko fled to Belarus. The deserter climbed over the fence and asked for political asylum in the country. In an interview with Belarusian propagandists, he told how Polish border guards allegedly shot migrants and he personally took part in it. Four and a half months after his desertion he hanged himself. It is noteworthy that yesterday it was exactly 2 years since Chechko was buried.
