Polish Defense Minister said that the country's leadership was already preparing a plan to build bunkers and dig trenches. Moreover, he said that Poland is actually already strengthening its border.
"We are repairing the fence on the Polish-Belarusian border, we are strengthening it. The expenditures for this purpose are the highest in Poland's history," Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Radio Zet.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the increased presence of Polish and allied armed forces in the border regions also contributes to strengthening the eastern borders of NATO and the European Union.
This presence has increased since Russia's aggression in Ukraine in 2022.
The minister advocated that Poland build a line of defensive bunkers, trenches and ditches along that border and the border with Russia's Kaliningrad region, something the Baltic states have already done.
The Polish Border Guard Service reports that 651 attempts to enter Poland illegally were recorded during March 8-9 alone. Illegals reportedly threw stones and sticks at Polish border guards.
On the previous day, the Polish Border Guard Service published a video from a video surveillance camera, which shows the hand of an unknown provocateur setting fire to a border post through the fence. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Polish border troops, while the unknown arsonist fled into the Belarusian border forests.
Escalation continues on the border between Belarus and Latvia. Today, Belarusian border guards found two corpses of refugees there, stated the State Border Committee. According to the agency, the body of one refugee was in a ditch near the gate, while the second - forty meters from the border fence. Arriving medics stated the death of the men.
The State Border Committee added that since 2021, the Belarusian side had recorded the death of 54 foreigners on the border with the EU countries, 25 of whom died at the border with Poland, 9 - with Lithuania and 20 - with Latvia.
