US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Saudi Arabia on April 29-30 to discuss the prospects for a ceasefire in Gaza and providing humanitarian assistance to the enclave, according to a trip announcement issued by the US Foreign Office, writes Voice of America. Blinken plans to discuss the release of Israeli hostages held Hamas terrorists.
“He will discuss the recent increase in humanitarian aid reaching Gaza and emphasize the importance of ensuring sustainable growth. The Secretary of State will also emphasize the importance of preventing the spread of conflict and discuss ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the region, including through the creation of an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel,” the statement noted.
In addition, Blinken is scheduled to attend a Gulf Cooperation Council ministerial meeting on regional security. At a special meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, the US Secretary of State will discuss with partners “progress in efforts to reduce the effects of climate change and the development of global energy.”
