Moscow and Saint Petersburg held pickets organized by relatives of servicemen sent to Ukraine for the war. Activists of the “Way Home” movement in the capital began their action by laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the walls of the Kremlin, and then went on single pickets in front of the building of the Ministry of Defense, the administration of the President and the Supreme Court, reports Sota.
“At some point, I don’t think there’ll be any mobilized man. There will be a second wave of mobilization, and there will be other wives in white headscarves, and we will support them in black, God forbid”, — stated one of the movement members.
The activists are dissatisfied with the actions of the Russian authorities and their refusal to hold rallies of relatives of the mobilized.
On the Field of Mars in Saint Petersburg, there was a similar action, where relatives of the mobilized laid flowers and ribbons with the inscription "Women for life" to the Eternal Fire. Participants of the event appeared in white headscarves, similar to those worn by relatives repressed during the dictatorship in Argentina, according to MR7.
Families of servicemen who are fighting in the war in Ukraine began to massively demand their return in September, organizing petitions and appeals to officials through social networks. Relatives of the military also made attempts to hold similar actions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Chelyabinsk, but everywhere the authorities refused to harmonize them, citing "anti-COVID-19" restrictions.
