Utility disaster in Russia's Lipetsk: 60 houses were left without heating in frosty weather

More than 60 houses in Lipetsk were left without heating due to an accident. According to the city mayor, there have been three breakages in heat supply networks over the past 24 hours. Due to this situation, the city has introduced measures to create temporary shelters for citizens, which it is planned to accommodate the victims. The air temperature in the city dropped to -23°C.

"At night there was an increased flow rate on the heating network, in the morning we found a break in Barysheva Street. Sixty-four houses were cut off. When "Quadra" started switching the system, there were two more breaks. They did not add to the number of disconnected apartment buildings", - said the city mayor.

At the meeting, which was attended by representatives of energy companies and management companies servicing the houses left without heating, the mayor of the city announced the beginning of preparation of temporary accommodation shelters for the affected residents. These places will be opened in schools and cultural centers. It was decided to urgently purchase 200 electric heaters to provide heat.

This incident was not the first time when Russians found themselves without heating. The largest-scale shutdowns were in Podolsk, where a break in the heating mains left more than 170 houses without heating, where about 150,000 people live.

Following this incident, on January 10, a court in Moscow decided to arrest two defendants in criminal cases that were initiated after the accident at the boiler house of the Klimovsk Patron Factory that caused the emergency.
