According to official information, the incident was caused by a breakdown of a transformer. Specialists are on the location of the incident, however, it has not been yet possible to restore normal performance of the power plant. At this time, the temperature in the city keeps dropping and currently is -13 degrees Celsius.
The mayor of Novomoskovsk Ruslan Butov emphasized that in 372 residential buildings, 16 kindergartens, 10 schools and a hospital there was a decrease in the temperature of the heat carrier supply. "In light of the current situation, all available resources and means were mobilized to promptly eliminate the accident."
In January, thousands of residents of the Moscow Region and other Russian regions found themselves without heating due to utility accidents. Heat supply problems were reported in various localities, including Klimovsk, Novosibirsk, Perm, Penza and Astrakhan.
Residents of Yakhroma, located in the suburbs of Moscow Region, have been left without heating for the third in a row. Despite statements by the city authorities about the emergency boiler plant being started up, heating has still not been supplied to 74 houses, 5 kindergartens and several schools. Local residents have created a petition in which they claim that about 8,000 people are freezing in the town.
