Relatives of Nepalese citizens taking part in the war on the side of Russia are calling on Moscow to return their loved ones. According to CNN, Russia has recruited approximately 15,000 locals, offering them a salary of $2,000 per service.
"I didn't go into the Russian army for pleasure. I had no employment opportunities in Nepal. But looking back, it was not the right decision. We had no idea that we would be sent to the front line so quickly and how terrible the situation would be," said one of the mercenaries.
He explained that he had decided to join the RF Armed Forces because he had no permanent income in his home country. For this, he was offered a monthly remuneration and Russian citizenship. Upon arrival in Moscow, the mercenary was sent for short-term training, after which he was sent to the front line in Bakhmut. He stayed there for about a month until he was wounded.
"There is not a single plot of land in Bakhmut that has not been damaged by bombs. All the trees, bushes, and greenery ... they're gone. Most of the houses have been destroyed. The situation there is so terrible that one wants to cry," the mercenary says.
According to the channel, about 15,000 Nepalese citizens took part in the fighting on the side of Russia. At least 2,000 of them are considered missing. Relatives of the mercenaries appeal to the authorities to return their loved ones home. However, Nepali politicians doubt the reported number of mercenaries, claiming that only about 200 Nepalese citizens are involved in the war.
