Residents of Belgorod want to evacuate, but the Kremlin does not allow

Belgorod region has been under daily shelling for 12 days. Over the past week, more than 10 people have already died from shelling. In total, more than 130 Belgorod civilians have been killed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In Belgorod, more than 5 thousand people were left without light due to damage on the power line, the governor said.

According to local media reports, most of the basements that the authorities recommend to use as bomb shelters are still closed. At the beginning of Russia's war with Ukraine, anti-terrorist measures were introduced in Belgorod, as a result of which all attics and basements were closed.

Now the federal authorities do not offer any evacuation programs to Belgorod residents. The maximum that the authorities have done is to send 9 thousand children to neighboring regions, while tens of thousands of children in the region and in Belgorod itself were left without attention.

Today, March 21, the head of the village of Graivoron in the Belgorod region for the first time called on local residents to evacuate.

"I appeal to those who remained in the area. The situation continues to be tense. I ask you to make the right decision and leave the territory of the urban district," wrote the head of Belgorod Graivoron Gennady Bondarev.

This is the first case with a request for evacuation by residents of the region since the daily attacks on the region began.

Recently, many videos of empty store shelves began to spread in social networks. According to local residents, suppliers of goods refuse to go to Belgorod region for fear of shelling. The authorities also do not supply humanitarian aid to the region. Recently it became known that the notorious chain of restaurants "Vkusno i Tochka" (former McDonald's) decided to close all its restaurants in Belgorod and the region.

The Kremlin media are diligently ignoring the deteriorating situation in Belgorod and the region. Previously, the locals believed that it was all because of the presidential elections in Russia, but now the elections are over, the shelling has not ended, and the authorities still don't care about the residents of Belgorod.

During all 12 days of daily attacks on the region, Putin spoke out for the first time only yesterday, March 20, thanking the residents of the region for "their courage" and saying that there are "different ways to ensure security". However, he soon changed the subject, saying that he did not want to "go into details in a solemn atmosphere." Putin made no mention of casualties, humanitarian aid or evacuations.
