The chairman of the opposition United National Movement party, Levan Khabeishvili, was brutally beaten by special forces during night protests. He was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. According to doctors, Khabeishvili has broken facial bones, knocked out teeth, a hematoma of the eye, and numerous abrasions and bruises are visible throughout his body.
The MP posted a photo with a swollen eye and bruises on social networks: "I have nothing painful, my eye will be fine, my body will be fine, and everything will be fine".
This morning, straight from the hospital Levan Khabeishvili went to the Parliament building where he gave a press conference to journalists and talked to supporters.
Let us remind that Khabeishvili is a member of the Parliament of Georgia and has parliamentary immunity. But recent days show that opposition MPs no longer have it.
Local media say that the personal representative of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili Sofo Japaridze and American lawyer Ted Jonas were also beaten at the rally. AFP news agency reported that their photographer was beaten.
We remind you that on the night of April 30-May 1, law enforcers tried to disperse a protest against the law "On Foreign Agents" in the capital of Georgia, using pepper spray, tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets. At night, the protesters began erecting barricades on Rustaveli Avenue in the center of the capital. According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, police detained 63 people in Tbilisi during the protest.
By 4 a.m., the police stopped trying to disperse the protesters and soon left Rustaveli Avenue. The remaining protesters occupied the square in front of the parliament building, fencing off the riot police with barricades.
