The so-called LPR court sentenced to 11 years in prison, deputy commander of the 74th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Ministry of Defense Irek Magasumov. He was found guilty of murder in the killing of an 18-year-old girl.
Last August, Putin awarded him the title "Hero of Russia".
According to the verdict, on August 11, 2023, Magasumov came together with senior lieutenant Pavel Yaskevich to a bar where they met a young girl. The defense of the military officer claimed that it was Yaskevich who shot the deceased, while the convict himself allegedly left a few minutes before the incident. Later, the defense adhered to the version that the girl accidentally shot herself in the chest from the gun Magasumov had given her to shoot.
After the military officer was detained on suspicion of murder, former Kuzbass governor-unionist Sergei Tsivilyov stood up for him. In a letter to the head of the Investigative Committee Bastrykin, he pointed out that Magasumov "honorably fulfills his military duty" in Ukraine and "inspires" other servicemen to brave actions "by his example."
The court also stripped Magasumov of the title of "Hero of Russia." At the same time, the military rank of lieutenant colonel and three Orders of Courage were retained. Retention of his military rank will allow him to return to the war in Ukraine as an officer.
The lawyer said that Irek Magasumov plans to return to the war in Ukraine regardless of the verdict. The military man did not admit his guilt, but during the last word apologized to the mother of the dead girl. The defense is going to appeal the verdict.
