U.S. authorities are "reconsidering some short-term military assistance deliveries in the context of the unfolding events in Rafah," the Pentagon chief said.
Earlier, Axios sources among Israeli officials said that the US suspended the supply of ammunition to the Israeli army for the first time since the Hamas attack on Israel.
It is about 3,500 bombs that the U.S. was supposed to transfer to the IDF. Al Arabiya's source in the US administration explained that the US suspended the deliveries because of concerns about Israel's operation in the town of Rafah on the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt.
According to the NYT, the US administration is now deciding whether to suspend future arms deliveries to Israel, including the transfer of guidance kits, which are used to upgrade bombs into precision-guided munitions.
Recall, earlier Israel took control of the Palestinian part of the Rafah crossing in the Gaza Strip on the border with Egypt. The military reported that during the ground operation were killed 20 members of the group Hamas.
After Israel brought equipment and military personnel into Rafah, Hamas said it had agreed to a cease-fire in Gaza. The group's representatives informed Qatar and Egypt, who acted as mediators. Israel said the terms Hamas agreed to were too lenient and did not meet Israeli demands. Israeli authorities call Rafah the last stronghold of the jihadists.
