After the summit in Brussels, EU leaders supported not only the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine but also the accelerated delivery of ammunition.
"The European Council underlines the need to urgently provide air defense systems for Ukraine and to accelerate and intensify the delivery of all necessary military assistance, including artillery ammunition and missiles," the final document said.
It is also reported that the European Council welcomed the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine and called for the proposal to be approved as soon as possible.
The outcome of the summit emphasizes that military assistance will be provided following the security policies of each of the EU member states.
At a news conference in Brussels, European Council President Charles Michel reported on the progress in the issue of military assistance to Ukraine. He noted that member states with the necessary resources realize the importance of supplying military systems and ammunition, stressing the EU's commitment to long-term support for Ukraine.
When asked about the timeframe for the delivery of additional air defense systems to Ukraine, Charles Michel emphasized that the EU was working to speed up the process, referring to President Zelenskyy's request.
"It's not a matter of months. It's a matter of days and weeks. It is very important that we fulfill our promises," he added.
