Latvia will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package that will help improve both air defense and intelligence capabilities, Prime Minister Evika Silinja said, noting that the country annually allocates 0.25 percent of GDP for military support to Ukraine.
The new military aid package will include, among others: NBS anti-aircraft installations, tactical unmanned surveillance systems and other equipment.
NBS (MANTIS) is a modular automatic and networked guidance and interception system. It is designed to protect military and strategic civilian infrastructure from low-altitude aerial threats, including manned and unmanned aircraft.
Meanwhile, the German government website has published a new announcement about another military aid package for Ukraine.
In particular, the AFU will receive additional air defense equipment, shells and armored vehicles. Also, Kiev received the second Skynex anti-aircraft artillery system, Iris-T SLM air defense missiles, 10 Marder BMPs, almost 30,000 ammunition for Gepard SAU, ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks (the number is not specified), three thousand RGW 90 portable anti-tank grenade launchers, 7,500 rounds of 155 mm ammunition, as well as various military engineering equipment.
Skynex is an anti-aircraft artillery system designed and manufactured by Rheinmetall. This air defense system is fairly new, as it was introduced in November 2021. Its main armament is the 35mm Oerlikon Mk3 automatic cannon, which has an effective range of 4,000 meters and a rate of fire of 1,000 rounds per minute. It can destroy an entire swarm of enemy flying drones.
