The first commission, headed by Jerzy Miller, pointed to pilot mistakes, problems with Russian air traffic controllers and insufficient airport equipment.
However, not everyone in Poland agreed with these findings, and in 2016 a second commission was set up under the leadership of Antoni Macierewicz, who argued that the first report had withheld facts indicating "Russia's guilt." The costs of the Macierewicz commission reached $7.5 million.
"Minister Jerzy Miller's report explained in detail the causes of that terrible disaster - in an honest, comprehensive and in-depth way. This is an official document that people like Mr. Macierewicz have tried to destroy in recent years," Minister Kierwiński emphasized.
RMF Radio notes that "in the near future, a group will be set up to analyze the activities of Macierewicz's commission".
