Russian oligarch Kerimov may lose his yacht

U.S. authorities have requested court approval to sell the Amadea vessel.

The $325 million mega-yacht is reportedly owned by Russian oligarch, billionaire, senator Suleiman Kerimov, Bloomberg reported.

Thus, Amadea was taken into custody in Fiji at the beginning of April 2022 based on the request of the USA. The court of Fiji made a decision at the end of June on the transfer of the yacht to the Americans since a ship of this level imposes significant costs on the state.

According to documents, the yacht is registered in the name of a former CEO of Rosneft, businessman Eduard Khudainatov. He is on the list of EU sanctions but not on the US one. But it's really curious that the yacht «Scheherazade,» arrested on the coast of Italy, was also in his name, being believed to belong to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Khudainatov is extremely against the arrest and sale through court of the yacht. At the same time, the technical maintenance of the vessel requires $600 million for the US government monthly. Among these expenditures, it is possible to single out wages of the crew, fuel required for a yacht, technical maintenance, garbage disposal, and other kinds of expenditures. Ventilating the yacht so that the hand-painted walls, marble floors, and leather-bound bookshelves will not become damp uses a lot of fuel. Khudainatov says that if the yacht is to be given back to him, he is ready to give $20 million to account for the monies that the ship had accrued while in the custody of the US.

The government of US feels that it should not use the money of the US people over the maintenance of the yacht while it continues with the battles in the courts with Khudainatov.
